Affiliate marketing can be a lucrative business for you, if you know what you’re doing and can stick with it. However, a lot of people enter into this business with ill-conceived notions. And when they don’t reach a certain level of success, they don’t understand the problem and they quit. Here are some affiliate marketing mistakes to try and avoid.
Mistake: Believing all the hype
How many times do we come across headlines stating that you can become rich overnight? Or in a week? A month? That just isn’t going to happen. Most successful affiliate marketers became successful over a significant period of time. Things just don’t happen overnight. And, they went through a lot of trial and error before finding out what works for them. If you go into this business expecting instant riches, you are giving yourself false hope. It’s good to have that as a goal, but keep in mind that it’s a long-term goal.

Before you can create your product you need to do a little research: find out what other people are doing, find out what’s hot, and what will work well.
Select a topic that is marketable.
This can be a tough chore because many people have unique interests that they are emotionally attached to, and therefore want to do an information product on. While this is admirable, and in theory a good idea, in the competitive information product market it will not work. You must find a topic that people want to read, better yet, a topic people must read.

Ask questions first before you join an affiliate program. Do a little research about the choices of program that you intend to join into. Get some answers because they will be the deciding point of what you will be achieving later on.
Will it cost you anything to join? Most affiliate programs being offered today are absolutely free of charge. So why settle for those that charge you some dollars before joining.
When do they issue the commission checks? Every program is different. Some issue their checks once a month, every quarter, etc. Select the one that is suited to your payment time choice. Many affiliate programs are setting a minimum earned commission amount that an affiliate must meet or exceed in order for their checks to be issued.
