Avoid These Five Affiliate Marketing Mistakes
Affiliate marketing can be a lucrative business for you, if you know what you’re doing and can stick with it. However, a lot of people enter into this business with ill-conceived notions. And when they don’t reach a certain level of success, they don’t understand the problem and they quit. Here are some affiliate marketing mistakes to try and avoid.
Mistake: Believing all the hype
How many times do we come across headlines stating that you can become rich overnight? Or in a week? A month? That just isn’t going to happen. Most successful affiliate marketers became successful over a significant period of time. Things just don’t happen overnight. And, they went through a lot of trial and error before finding out what works for them. If you go into this business expecting instant riches, you are giving yourself false hope. It’s good to have that as a goal, but keep in mind that it’s a long-term goal.
Mistake: Not using all available resources
I jumped in and out of a lot of businesses before I took stock of what I was doing. I was blindly going into things. I decided to take a few steps back and do some research. There is a plethora of information available to you; some free some not. The best advice I can give is to get it and use it! Read up on the mistakes others have made and the steps they took to correct those mistakes and move forward. This will save YOU a lot of time and you will know what NOT to do.
Mistake: Not focusing on one product at a time
Another mistake I made. I would grab a bunch of products to promote without giving any of them enough focus. If one didn’t seem to produce quickly, I moved to the next and so forth. In order to be successful with ANY product promotion, you must put time into it. Develop and strategy for it and make it work.
Mistake: Using a free website
I’ve seen this often. I would rather be redirected directly to the affiliate site than read a site with pop up ads all over the place. If you can’t afford to purchase a site of your own, set up a blog. It looks much better than a sponsored ad (not of your doing) popping up or sitting on the side of the screen.
Mistake: Trying to copy another affiliate marketer
Remember, what works for one person, may need some tweaking to work for another. And, if everyone did this, the customers wouldn’t see any uniqueness in your offer and may just move on. Plus, keep this in mind. If someone is successful and writes a book on how they did it, it is quite possible that they are keeping a few things to themselves. You are still the competition, whether you are new to affiliate marketing or not.
These five affiliate marketing mistakes are five that I made myself when I started. Hopefully, you can avoid these in your attempts to become successful in your online business.
